Checked out but still working:)

Our living room is full of bags of wonderful things for Kino - clothes, toys, electric plugs, books, shoes, borrowed suitcases, a box full of wonderful clothes from my parents. Our world is so full right now it's a bit hard to take in. I'm amazed that folks respond to me that "I'm calm." Well I have to wonder what am I supposed to be like? And Steve? Stressing about how to rebuild the deck at the Inn ... www.glenacresinn.com ...with additives.
I've been pacing since we got home after an "emergency" shower I was given at work today. How sweet everyone was to jump in so quickly and produce not only clothes ( + $ and $ cards!)and a toy from Hannah that I think will make the difference in the 33 hour flight + a 7 hour layover- I hope - it certainly entertained Hans the visiting 5 yr old.

Heart felt thanks for everyone plus the $ to use for current needs.

Anyone want to pack for us? :)

Jazz at the cafe

Timing just seemed to work out in the planning of another music event at the Inn. We welcomed a larger group to catch the vibe of the cafe with a vocalist Susan Harper, a keyboard player Shawn, Gary on guitar, Ksin on drums and of course "the man" as they refer to him, Mike Deasy Jr on sax. The cafe sound was so amazing - they want to use the space to record in the future.
The Westport Jazz Festival is now in the planning stages with all band members very excited about the Inn possibilities.
Gary by the way wants to live on the one of our beat up boats!
We will get up very early in the am and race back to Seattle for the work scene. Still need to devote time to finding a hotel for our time in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and Hanoi. Tonight for sure :)
Janet and Jeff (my sister and bro-in-law) and their friends Colleen and Llyod were our real guests this weekend - didn't get a golf game at the Tokeland course, but still managed to enjoy themselves!
Steve managed to get the plumbing hooked up in the kitchen as well as install the cafe bathroom toilet!
Back to Seattle in am to do the work thing as well as continue prep for Vietnam. Wow seems so weird to write that!

A 3 year old's world expands

3rd cousin Kellan and his mom Susanna:
So, I was LISTENING TO NPR in the car today and this guy was talking about his website,www.wherethehellismatt.com .
He mentioned Vietnam, and from the back seat Kellan heard it and perked up.
“Vietnam!” he said.
“Yes, he said Vietnam,” I replied.
“Who lives in Vietnam?” he asked—already knowing the answer
“Kino does,” I said.
“Yes,” he confirmed, satisfied.

Now, at home, he says, “I want to play the World!” which is what he calls Google Earth.

“Vietnam! Type in Vietnam! I want to go to Vietnam!”

And he says it right…now look what you’ve started. J
So, off we go to Vietnam…

Thanks,
Susannah

The world is expanding in so may ways. We leave as usual in the am for the coast - snow falling on the spring flowers. Janet and Jeff just arrived at the Inn for her birthday weekend! Happy Golden BD Janet!

The race is on!

We are in OMG mode at this point - I have a list that instead of getting shorter as I cross things off is staying balanced - for every item removed another is added. I'm guessing it will end when we hop on the plane and can no longer be "doing stuff" and must leave the list to the recycling.

Cousin Susanna and 3 year old Kellan came over yesterday- this was a momentous event as Susanna recently tracked my sister Janet and I down through some east coast relatives and we hadn't yet met face to face. They brought all kinds of goodies for Kino including a little backpack filled with all the cool and groovy things Kellan thought a new American boy should have to travel with! We had some pho (vietnamese noodle soup) in the hood - Kellan loved his enough to wear some home:) Their visit was too short - my new cuz is fabulous and boy does she love to talk! I'm looking forward to her meeting the rest of the west coast cousins.

Notification!!!!

One year ago Steve was hiking in Mexico with Dave and family, I was home at the loft in Pioneer Square with the two cats. Lolo our tiny little 2 lb ancient kitty that had found us a year before was going downhill. I took here to a vet who while very sweet and kind wasn't completely honest with me about the rapid decline in Lol and even though I the oncology nurse forever was well awre she was dying, grabbed the offer of giving her IV fluids at home. Hmm. Yeah. As Imentioned she weighed aobut 2 lbs and you have never seen a tinier kitty in your life. WHen they gave her fluids in the vets' office - the tech pulled the skin at her neck up and stuck the needl in only to have it come out the other side. Long story, but I ended up hospicing her by myself. I struggled with that decsion as does any pet owner when the time to say good by comes, but also felt good about it. I cried for days and of course could not get ahold of Steve to relay this turn of events.

As i wandered arounf the loft and watched the ferries go by on the Sound, I decided to listen to a message that had come through several days before. I couldn't hear exactly what the man was saying, but thought he said his name was John and on about the fourth attempt thoughtI heard "John from Faith." WHAT!!!!!

I called and got thorugh to the woman who was the coordinator at that time. She told me they had a referral for us, a boy and would I like to see some pics?

Silly question. Within an hour the world was seeing Thang and the return emails were filling the inbox. Of course I still couldn't talk to Steve, but I was able to email his brother in Mexcio to let him know of this other new turn of events.

That night Lolo stopped moving mostly. I layed with her on our bed and like a maniac sang made up songs over and over and over all night. She died the next morning at 11 am. Such sadness mixed with joy. She was a very sweet strong kitty who brought me great happiness in the year we knew her.

SO now after a YEAR of waiting, we got an email from the embassy on the 18th of March at 9:42. TO be honest Steve and I thought it was paerwork requests and the notification was labeled "preliminary." We got a little excited, but were also a bit reserved haivng been thorugh too much. I forwarded the email to Amy at Faith asking if this was what we had been waiting for. She emailed us while we were asleep and sadi "YES" it was it.

The world has been a bit different since that moment.
